You do not need a half hour to ask whether the lab can spend four hundred on an antibody. You need a decision.
The line they will forward
Item, vendor, amount, which grant or which card, when the quote dies, what happens if the answer is no — delay the experiment two weeks, or use the backup clone.
Then: approve this spend, or tell me to wait.
Do not send the enthusiasm
Your assistant will draft a paragraph about impact. Delete it. A busy expert files amounts, not vibes.
Mark anything you did not check — "the backup clone worked in last year's paper" is a claim. If you did not read that paper, say inferred.
This is not a collaboration request
Asking another lab is a different letter. This one stays inside the group. If your PI wants a meeting anyway, they will say so after they have the number. You both skip the recap.
